It was named as the eighth wonder of ancient world a rock fortress of Sri Lanka. The entrance looks like the mouth of a lion, it stands tall even today reminds ancient wonder. There are frescoes you can see inside the mighty rock.
Things to do in Sigiriya:
Elephant Safari in Minneriya or Kaudulla National Park – (Entrance to the park, jeep and a tracker can be hired at 35 $ per person). These parks by the tank built by king Prakaramabahu is a habitat for wildlife and birds. Minneriya now a wild life and games park is an ideal destination to see wildlife and elephants. After breakfast depart from the hotel to reach Dambulla Cave Temple – (Entrance fee app. 10 $ per person)
Visit to Dambulla cave temple is a cave temple dating back to the 12th century which was once refuge to king Walagamba. Today it bears intricately carved statues of Lord Buddha and various Hindu gods.
Spice Garden – (No entrance fee) Enjoy the Sri Lanka’s world renowned spices at their source. Sri Dalada Maligawa or the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic is a Buddhist temple in the city of Kandy, Sri Lanka. It is located in the royal palace complex of the former Kingdom of Kandy, which houses the relic of the tooth of the Buddha. Thereafter visit to Peradeniya Botanical Gardens – (Entrance fee app. 10 $ per peson) with their rich history dating back to 1371 and a collection of more than 300 varieties of orchids, spices, medicinal plants and palms are located in Peradeniya, approximately 4km from Kandy. On completion, proceed to Nuwara Eliya. Witness the Ramboda water fall & en-route visit to Hanuman Temple, Tea Factory you can stop and enjoy a cup of Ceylon Tea while enjoying the spectacular scenery (No entrance fee).
Kandy – Nuwara Eliya: Distance: 95 km, Duration: 2 hours 30 mins
After breakfast proceed to Nanu Oya rail way station, from Nanu Oya to Ella by train. This train trip is known as one of the most scenic train trip in the world. (On seat/train availability) Ask your driver about the train schedules and he will arrange the tickets and transfers. The driver will then pick you up in Ella.
Nuwara Eliya – Ella: Distance: 95 km, Duration 3 hours 30 mins
